Amitabh Bachchan, born October 11, 1942, is an Indian actor, film producer, television presenter, occasional replay singer, and former politician known for his work in Hindi cinema. He is regarded as one of the most successful and influential actors in the history of Indian cinema. He has been called the Shahenshah of Bollywood (referring to his 1988 film Shahenshah), Sadi ka Mahanayak (Hindi for “greatest actor of the century”), Star of the Millennium or Big B . , French director François Truffaut called it “a one-man industry”.
Bachchan has been married to veteran actress and politician Jaya Badri since 1973, and they have two children together. Actor Abhishek and writer, journalist, and former model Shweta. Abhishek is married to actress Aishwarya Rai and has a daughter named Aladhya.
Bachchan was born in Allahabad in 1942 to Hindi poet Harivansh Rai Bachchan and his wife, social activist Tej Bachchan. He was educated at Sherwood College, Nainital, and Kirori Mal College, University of Delhi. His film career began in 1969 as a voice actor in Mrinal Sen’s film Bhuvan Shome. He first became popular in the early 1970s with films such as Zanjeer, Diwar, and Sholay, and in later years named India’s “angry youth” for several of his roles in Hindi films. Since then, he has appeared in over 200 Indian films in a career spanning over 50 years. He has won numerous awards during his career, including four National Film Awards for Best Actor, Dada Saheb his Falke Award Lifetime Achievement Award, and many international film festivals and awards ceremonies. He has won 16 Filmfare Awards and is the most nominated actor in all major Filmfare acting categories with a total of 42 nominations. In addition to his acting, Bachchan has also worked as a singer, film producer, and television host. He hosted several seasons of the game show Kaun Banega Crorepati, the Indian version of the game show franchise Who Want to be a Millionaire. He also briefly entered politics in the 1980s.
